Addison Berkey has lived in the Hudson Valley for over thirty years and has been known for his fine restorations and historic designs for new homes built in late 18th and early 19th Century styles. His eccentric approach includes building sags in the roof, in rooms themselves, in door frames and in ceilings. He uses old material for flooring, doors, mantels and wherever possible. For siding, levels are thrown away and clapboards are installed by eye using shims to create a sway in the building to replicate age. Mr. Berkey has completed 29 projects in the Hudson Valley and in Connecticut.

Aside from restoring buildings Mr. Berkey collects fine art, antiques and decorations to complete the projects. When a house goes on the market it is full of items that he has found at auction, antique shops and in his travels. For over forty years, he has collected antiques and art, developing the discriminating eye that has made him known as a “Taste Maker” in the Hudson Valley.

Over these forty years, he has also put together his own fine collection, which now decorates Bullis Hall, the hotel that he founded in 2000. Bullis Hall was an old theatre in the center of Bangal (Near Millbrook), NY where all sorts of shows were put on, including Native American entertainment. Mr. Berkey restored the building to beautiful condition and decorated it with an eclectic mix of fine English and European antiques, American Country and Federal pieces and a sampling of Asian furniture. Gracefully mixing 20th century art work with antique paintings, and fine pottery, porcelain, silver, glass and rugs he achieved a look that was so successful that it attracted Relais and Chateaux. Since 2003, Bullis Hall has been a member of this esteemed association and has been considered one of the best small hotels in this country.

Litchfield County Auctions is excited to present this one time opportunity to view this distinguished hotel and its fine collection in situ, and to offer this “fresh-to-the-market” collection in its entirety at auction on iGavel.
