Ruggiero & Associates is pleased to offer property from the Estate of Louise Cherry Brooks of Montgomery, Alabama in our first sale of 2004. Over her ninety-three years Mrs. Brooks avidly pursued her unparalleled passion for collecting, and the diverse group of property offered in this sale in many ways tells the story of her life.
A large library featuring early Americana and Southern History dates her family as one of Alabama’s earliest. An interesting mix of Southern country furniture and English mahogany define her varied tastes – her heart in the country, but her style more formal. European paintings were hung together with a large collection of Southern contemporary, Outsider, and early Alabama Dixie Art Colony works giving her home a bright, warm, and friendly feel. Tiffany silver, Asian ceramics, and Georgian decorative arts mixed with Native American baskets and pottery, and the large collection of porcelain dolls assured friends were always at the supper table. Always stylish, but never extravagant, the hundreds of pieces of period costume jewelry (much of which she wore daily) attest to a woman not only living life to the fullest but also out there having fun with a twinkle in her eye. Her granddaughters now wear the Cartier and Van Cleef, but you will love the enormous lots of “razzle-dazzle”. Specializing in Estate auctions, we often never have a chance to meet the real client, and Mrs. Brooks is one client I truly regret not having met in person.
The Anthony Fant Collection from Birmingham, Alabama rounds out the sale with a large group of French and Continental painted and country furniture, religious artifacts, and stylish lighting devices. Often in the rough, these pieces add the style and flair of their owner’s eye to the Brooks Estate property. Additional lots from Southern collectors, including a fabulous David James seascape and a Patek Philippe pocketwatch, complete our Stars Fell On Alabama auction.
We hope that you will take advantage of our public exhibition dates and that you enjoy the sale!
