Featuring a fine collection of African and pre-Columbian art. Stuart Bart (1917-2010) attended Columbia University and received a Master's Degree in advertising from Pratt. He worked for BBD&O advertising until beginning his own advertising firm, Bart Inc., on Madison Avenue in 1932. He operated this firm for 20 years. After travel, he returned to Manhattan and in 1958 opened "The House of One Hundred Antiques" on 57th Street where he benefited from his keen eye, love of collecting, and research. Stuart retired in Florida in 1970. Also, featuring: Eight paintings the late American abstract expressionist Ben Wilson (1913-2001). Large Ancient Greek Carved Marble Bust of a Goddess. This auction features Asian and Ethnographic art from the Collection of Ron Krannich that he amassed over the last 35 years. As a travel writer he spanned the globe, and as a collector he purchased items he was passionate about along the way.
Other highlights in the auction include American, English and French 18th and 19th century furniture and decorations, the steel sculpture featured above by Ernest Trova, a bronze of Cupid and Psyche by Eugene-Ernest Chretien, a 16th century portrait of Virgin and Child from the Circle of Pieter Coecke van Aelst, several works by Savannah artists Myrtle Jones, Christopher Murphy Jr. and Sr., Hattie Saussy and others.
