iGavel is pleased to present this auction of Asian and Ethnographic Arts from the Collection of the Late Louis F. Simon.

Louis F. Simon, a violinist, conductor, composer, and educator was noted by Edwin Downes at his Carnegie Recital Hall debut in 1958 as a "real musician with a flair for his instrument." Mr. Simon participated actively in many musical endeavors in the New York metropolitan area, including the Metropolitan Opera, NYC Ballet Orchestra, NY Pops with Skitch Henderson, and many, many others.

As an educator, musician, and conductor he travelled all over the world, receiving a Knighthood in Cambodia and was proud to perform in eight Festivals Casals in Puerto Rico. As part of his travels, Mr. Simon and his wife Dorothy often sought out the art of indigineous peoples, buying objects that were bold and interesting. Their collection of Japanese Dolls include many rare and unusual examples not often found on the market. The collection was accumlated over many years and both Mr. and Mrs. Simon delighted in the community of collectors and dealers who shared their interest. Establishing Simon World Arts, Mr. and Mrs. Simon participated in many regional antique shows and fairs. The Simon Collection is available for private viewing in both Port Chester and Yonkers, please call for an appointment.
