The Haiti Education Alliance (THEA) began in 2010 in response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, when Cynthia Mudd, founding president, worked with survivors as an occupational therapist.  Seeing the lack of access to sustainable medical and rehabilitative care, THEA was established to help fill the gap to create long term solutions in these areas in Haiti.

THEA has a college fund to provide young men and women with the opportunity to go to universities in Haiti in the areas of medicine, nursing, dentistry, rehabilitation, and agriculture. The first rehabilitation student graduated in 2014 and has been working as the only rehabilitation specialist in his area of the country. THEA established and continues to support this rehabilitation clinic within the teaching hospital in Pignon, Haiti.

THEA provides tuition assistance for the poorest of the poor children in LaVictoire enabling them to complete primary and secondary school. For children who have not had the nutritional support needed for success with school, we started the Breakfast and Tutoring Program for 25 children to receive a nutritious breakfast and learn to read.  To support the schools in Lavictoire, THEA conducts a “Teachers Unite” conference every year- where 40-50 teachers from the 14 schools in and around Lavictoire share ideas with each other and teachers from the US who join us on that trip. Our teachers teach how to use the teaching resources we bring and strategies to build reading comprehension and further critical thinking skills. Four schools now have sports programs for boys and girls.

A pilot school garden program is now well underway at the largest school in town.In order to increase overall nutrition and health within the community, THEA has ongoing backyard and community gardening training as well as chicken/egg production training classes.  It is wonderful to see the 48-50 plentiful new gardens throughout Lavictoire! There is so much more we could do.

Your bids in this auction will directly help THEA and its mission.

Thank you for your support.
