Historical and Contemporary Photographs Auction This auction is a carefully selected group of photographs encompassing historical cabinet cards and early stereo cards to contemporary artists. The sale offers approximately 200 lots within almost every genre, medium and price range that photography has to offer. The auction features three categories of photographs: Category One is Documentary and Reportage which features the vintage work of many "Life" photographers in addition to Edward Weston, Bedrich Grunzweig, Lou Stoumen and Louis Faurer. Category Two features Landscapes and Still Lifes with the work of Tom Baril, Josef Breitenbach, Bruce Cratsley, Todd Hido, John Pfahl and Alfred Stieglitz. Category Three, Portraits and Figure Studies is dedicated to the work of Edward Weston, John Dugdale, Jack Pierson, and Berenice Abbott among others. Included in this sale are three photographs of the World Trade Center taken in 1979 by photographer Andre Naggar. The final hammer price of these three pieces will be donated to the Robin Hood Foundation's Relief Fund that is still helping the victim's families of 9/11. This auction features Asian and Ethnographic art from the Collection of Ron Krannich that he amassed over the last 35 years. As a travel writer he spanned the globe, and as a collector he purchased items he was passionate about along the way.
Other highlights in the auction include American, English and French 18th and 19th century furniture and decorations, the steel sculpture featured above by Ernest Trova, a bronze of Cupid and Psyche by Eugene-Ernest Chretien, a 16th century portrait of Virgin and Child from the Circle of Pieter Coecke van Aelst, several works by Savannah artists Myrtle Jones, Christopher Murphy Jr. and Sr., Hattie Saussy and others.
