Costa Lazzaretti (1938 - 2015) was a Certified Executive Chef of the American Culinary Federation (ACF), working in Seattle, Washington. He was an avid collector of LGB/G-Scale trains and accessories, attending many LGB and MRRC Conventions and Anniversaries all over the world from the 1980s to the early 2000's. According to the family," the owner of LGB came to visit Costa to meet him, because he owned nearly the entire European production run of all of the engines and trains produced since Costa started his collection."
This sale features over 60 lots, representing over 180 LGB engines and cars and features collections of G-scale toy trains, track, buildings, figures, electronics, and accessories mainly from Lehmann Gross Bahn (LGB) and POLA-LGB, with additional pieces from PIKO-LGB, Department 56, and Playmobil. The lots also include unusual and rare items such as a Ballenberg 1067 Rack Steam Locomotive (Ballenberg-Zahnrad-Dampflok 1067), LGB No. 20471; Baumann modified VTG Tank Car with real metal roof (DB Kesselwagen VTG), LGB/Baumann No. 20/4040VTG/2; and a Zillertalbahn Beer/Dining Car (Zillertalbahn Fasslwagen), LGB No. 3042.
