Daniel Cooney Fine Art and iGavelAuctions.com are very pleased to announce the Online Auction of Photographs from the Archive of Dody Weston Thompson and Other Collections. The impressive archive of Dody Weston Thompson consists of 80 vintage works by Ansel Adams, Morley Baer, Wynn Bullock, Eikoh Hosoe, Clarence John Laughlin, Donald Ross, Brett Weston, Edward Weston, Minor White, and Dody Weston Thompson herself. Dody Weston Thompson was Edward Weston's assistant and prot_g_ during the heyday of the West Coast Movement in photography. As Edward's full-time apprentice, Dody moved onto the grounds of Wildcat Hill in 1948 and became an integral part of Edward's photographic practice. Herself a skilled photographer and artful writer, she was invited to join the f/64 group in 1949 and wrote the preface to Edward's My Camera on Point Lobos. Dody was also a founder and frequent contributor to the photographic journal Aperture. In 1952 Dody married Brett Weston, Edward's son. Dody and Brett traveled the United States together and photographed some of their most recognizable images, most notably in White Sands, NM. During this time Dody also befriended and collaborated with many of Edward's famous friends including Ansel Adams, Imogen Cunningham, Alfred Stieglitz, Paul Strand and Minor White among others. The collection we are offering has a clear provenance from the various artists directly to Ms. Thompson. The auction features 19 vintage prints by Edward Weston and 23 vintage prints by Brett Weston. By Edward we have many iconic works including portraits of Igor Stravinsky, Robinson Jeffers and Carlos Merida. In addition, there are landscapes of Shenandoah Valley and Point Lobos. By Brett we have many of his wonderful landscapes and abstractions. From Dody herself we have four photographs of Edward's home and studio plus a beautiful vintage portrait of Edward at Rhyolite, NV. Also included in this collection are four photographs by Dody that highlight her unique style. Furthermore, the auction features four portraits of Dody by acclaimed New Orleans photographer Clarence John Laughlin. During Dody's childhood in New Orleans she assisted and modeled for Laughlin who was a contemporary of Dody's mother. All photographs in the auction are available for inspection at Daniel Cooney Fine Art. Please direct all questions to the gallery at 212 255 8158 or firstname.lastname@example.org
