Shirley Fleming was a writer, critic, and the editor of Musical America. She was born in New York but moved to Georgia when she was 7. Although she maintained a home in Augusta, she lived most of her adult life in Manhattan, on the Lower East Side. Fleming was a longtimeNew York Postclassical music critic and also wrote forThe New York Timesin the 1970s. Fleming's property offered in this auction was in her family home in Augusta, GA. It is being sold to benefit the Porter Fleming Foundation which supports educational activities in Georgia. Highlights of the collection include a Kentucky corner cupboard, an Empire pier table, an American curly maple settee, a Federal card table and a Regency convex mirror. Also included in the auction are several Savannah, Sea Island and Augusta collections. Highlights include a set of four Regency hall chairs, a pair of early Chinese Export Armorial plates which were featured on the Antiques Roadshow, a Roy Lichtenstein print, 18th century French and Italian furniture, sporting paintings, a Queen Anne collector's cabinet and a Queen Anne slant front desk. This auction features Asian and Ethnographic art from the Collection of Ron Krannich that he amassed over the last 35 years.  As a travel writer he spanned the globe, and as a collector he purchased items he was passionate about along the way.  

Other highlights in the auction include American, English and French 18th and 19th century furniture and decorations, the steel sculpture featured above by Ernest Trova, a bronze of Cupid and Psyche by Eugene-Ernest Chretien, a 16th century portrait of Virgin and Child from the Circle of Pieter Coecke van Aelst, several works by Savannah artists Myrtle Jones, Christopher Murphy Jr. and Sr., Hattie Saussy and others.
